“When every person in your family is a diabetic, you get used to the idea of developing diabetes yourself. But even then, living with diabetes is not any easier. I am the sort of person who does not act until the very last minute so, with diabetes, I had to learn to act fast and before things got worse.”
Mrs Kanika Jain, a 34 y/o housewife, is a dedicated and hard-working woman managing her own health along with her family in the most graceful way. She went through a series of health complications and injuries throughout her journey but has finally emerged victorious through it all.
Being from a family of diabetics, Mrs Jain was no stranger to this metabolic disorder. Her family doctor, who is just like an uncle to her, Dr. Mathur had guided her from an early age of 16 years to be careful with sugar.
“Dr. Mathur has been with me and my family since the start. He is my family’s go-to answer for any health problem. All of us have the utmost trust in him and I have grown up visiting him and have developed a family-like bond with him which is why I call him Uncle.”
In 2019, during a regular checkup, her HbA1C was found to be around 6.3 and so Dr. Mathur advised her that it was just the start and she can easily manage with lifestyle changes and medicine. That’s when Mrs. Jain’s sugar journey started.
“Although uncle (Dr. Mathur) told me to stay away from sweets and do physical activity, I was not very obedient. I did not control my lifestyle much even then. It does not matter if you have a family history of diabetes, the only way to control sugar levels is when you as a person have that motivation and willpower. I did not have that...yet.”
Going forward, Mrs. Jain had an ankle injury as well which just got worse with time. Due to a poor diagnosis, in the beginning, she could not get the proper treatment and the problem kept increasing. It is still present and she is planning to get surgery for it soon.
“Physical conditions like ankle pain are very difficult to manage, especially when you’re a housewife. Doing all the housework with this pain was not easy for me. I also developed anxiety and was having a very tough time. I was trying my best to move forward and fight it with a smile on my face for the sake of my family.”
With these health complications, diabetes was making her more and more tired to do anything. She was facing defeat in the face of her diabetes but her uncle would not let that happen.
“I used to feel so tired all day. No amount of rest made me feel fresh and energized. I was too young to be feeling this way. The realization hit that I had my whole life ahead of me and I needed to do something to protect myself from the long-term effects of diabetes. I told uncle about everything that is happening with me and he immediately came to my rescue with the perfect solution.”
In the midst of all this, Mrs. Jain’s HbA1C increased to 10.1 which is when Dr. Mathur referred Zyla to her.
“I was feeling lost and alone. I knew I had my family and uncle with me but I needed another helping hand to get me through all of it. Uncle told me about Zyla and gave me life-changing advice. He told me that I should treat diabetes as a friend rather than an enemy. I should learn to live with it in my life rather, without fighting or encouraging it. This advice really opened my eyes.”
“What touched me the most as I began using Zyla was being a housewife not many people asked me how I was feeling on a daily basis, but Zyla did and that truly made me feel so special.”
Within just 2 months of following the right schedule, Mrs. Jain’s HbA1C came down to 6.6. She talks in detail about how this achievement came about.
“Zyla guided me about what to eat and what foods naturally help in lowering sugar levels. I never used to have fruits before. Never liked them. But with Zyla, I slowly included them in my routine and now I have developed a taste for fruits. I have also lost some weight. The best part about the Zyla team is that they’re not just concerned about my sugar levels, in fact, they have gone above and beyond to focus on my overall physical and mental well-being.”
Her weight loss helped her feel much more confident in herself, especially when her loved ones noticed the changes and gave her a positive response. She has been taking care of her family but with Zyla she felt like someone was taking care of her too.
“I feel like I have a doctor by my side 24x7. They pamper me so much that it makes me feel loved and cared for in a way that all housewives care for their family. I even recommended Zyla to my sister-in-law and even her HbA1C came down from 10 to 7.”
But it’s obviously Mrs. Jain’s compliance with the guidance that has made this possible. It’s all because she followed every single advice religiously and acted upon it. Her efforts are what made her successful.
“Being a housewife, we are so dedicated to everyone else in our lives but because of Zyla, I finally paid attention to my own needs. I am healthier and more energetic. I have achieved a lot of health goals in this time but I still have to focus on getting even healthier because health is a lifelong promise, not a one-time thing. None of this would be possible without the support of my lovely family especially my husband.”
In her health journey, her husband has been the perfect partner to keep her motivated through her healthcare journey.
“He has always been by my side, cheering me on. When my HbA1c was high, he was worried as much as me. He wanted me to take care of myself but I didn’t know how. Now that I am taking care of my own self, he is so much happier. He says he is proud of me that I pay attention to my own health too now. He prays for my health and safety every day. He is not just my life partner, but my health partner too.”
“Do not give up. Keep following the healthy lifestyle suggested by your doctor and care team. Believe in them. Especially, to all the housewives, take care of your own health first. You are the backbone of your family and you need to be fit and happy to look after your family members.”
